Poda de Palmeras

Dead frond removal, seed-pod clean-up, and proper hurricane-prep pruning on queens, royals, Sylvesters and coconuts — done the right way, not the hurricane cut.

About this Service

The Right Way to Prune a Palm

Palms are different from trees. Cut too much and you stress the heart — that pale tender bud at the top. A stressed palm drops fronds, slows its growth, and sometimes never recovers.

We prune palms on the 9-to-3 rule or gentler — only fronds that are brown, yellowing, or below horizontal come off. We remove seed pods and flower stalks to stop the mess. We don't do the 'hurricane cut' that leaves a palm with only a handful of fronds pointing straight up — that's landscaper convenience, not tree care. Our climbers and spikeless belts mean no permanent scars on your palm trunks.

Signs Your Palms Need Attention

If any of these sound familiar, it's probably time for a professional to walk the property.

Dead or yellowing fronds hanging off the crown
Heavy seed pods about to drop on your lawn, cars, or pool deck
Flower stalks you don't want producing fruit
Fronds brushing the roof, gutters or windows
You can see brown 'boots' (old frond bases) building up on the trunk
It's been more than 18 months since the last professional trim

Our Process, Step by Step

Same approach on every job — whether it's a single tree or a property-wide contract.

01

Identify the Species

Queens, royals, Sylvesters, coconuts — each takes different pruning. We don't treat them all the same.

02

Climb & Inspect

Climber goes up with spikeless technique on ornamental palms to protect the trunk. We check the crown before cutting.

03

Selective Cut

Only dead, yellowing, or below-horizontal fronds come off. Seed pods and flower stalks removed. Never the heart.

04

Clean Haul-Off

Fronds chipped or hauled — never left on the curb. Driveway and pool deck blown clean.

Frequently Asked

Quick answers to the questions homeowners ask us most often about this service.

What's the 'pineapple cut' for Sylvester palms?

It's a decorative shaping where we trim the old frond bases into a neat pineapple pattern on the trunk. Very popular on landscaped properties — we do it properly.

Are coconuts dangerous?

Falling coconuts absolutely cause roof damage, pool damage, and injury. We remove them as part of a prune or on dedicated coconut-removal visits.

Do palms need fertilizing?

Yes — South Florida soil is low in potassium and magnesium, which palms need. We can recommend a treatment schedule during the trim.
